Blinking fuel cap and overdrive lights truck won't start
My 2004 scab died while driving. Cranks but doesn't start. Gas cap light and overdrive light on gear shift blink when cranking. Odometer is all dashes. Started about a half hour after i rinsed down the engine compartment and then drove about 4 miles. Changed PCM relay but that didn't fix it. Tried the other key based on the anti-theft posts i read. Nothing also. If there is a thread out there about his can you point me in the right direction.

There is a procedure to washing down an engine of today's vehicles. It sounds like you really soaked things that shouldn't have been soaked.
I would first let things dry out for a day or two, you might get lucky. Hopefully there wasn't water ingress into the PCM. Good luck. |
Your PCM, for whatever specific reason, is not powering up and establishing communications with the instrument cluster, that's why you have dashes on the odometer display. This is not a PATS/key issue, it's further upstream.

As as addition, one thing I learned a long time ago, it doesn't matter how spotless an engine compartment looks, it's how it runs.
I would rather buy a vehicle that has a filthy engine compartment, than one that someone cleaned. Usually that's a tell-tail sign someone's hiding something. Plus you can then clearly see what's been replaced and what has not, and what's leaking, and so on and so forth... |
Thanks. Went and tried to start truck this am. Same thing happening. Could hear ticking when the lights were blinking. Traced it to the wheel well fuses and the fuel relay was making the noise. changed it but still making it.Also noticed that the wire going into the top of the throttle body was clicking also. Disconnected it and it stopped. Obviously it wouldn't start when disconnected. ???

Its the IAC that's clicking.

Please confirm exactly what truck you have. Is it a 2004 Heritage with a 4.2 V6 or is it a 2004 new body style with a 4.6 or 5.4 V8?

2004 heritage with the 4.2
