1997 4.2 Harmonic Balancer question
I have a 1997 f-150 with the 4.2 liter engine. It has a bad harmonic balancer so I removed the old one, replaced the crankshaft position sensor, and went to the local parts store and borrowed an installer tool for putting it back on.
Here is the problem. The harmonic balancer I bought came with the pulley attached already. I can't see a way of getting it off. There are 4 bolts on the pulley but they are put in from the back of the pulley.
So my question is... is there a special tool to install the balancer with the pulley left on it? The one from the store goes in but you can't turn the bolt because it is so deep inside the pulley. A deepwell socket won't work, a wrench can't get to it.
Do I have to separate the pulley from the harmonic balancer? If so does anyone know how to do it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
TINSIN
