Camshaft sensor & scanner

Recently purchased a 99 F150 4.2 manual trans truck. Installed new engine and truck runs and drives perfectly. SES light came on after about 20 miles, & I am assuming it is due for cats. They appear to be original.

I plan to purchase a scanner. I know I can go by AutoZone and have the codes read, but would rather purchase a scanner. I have always driven older cars (my driver is an 83 with 307,000 miles) and never needed a scanner, but recently we have added five cars with obdII. I need to be able to scan BMW, Ford, Nissan and Toyota. I noticed some of the really cheap ones won't scan the Toyota.
Any reason to shy away from this one?

Second question pertains to the cam position sensor. I was careful to line up both engines in exactly the same position before swapping the sensor over to the new engine (actually purchased a reman long block) and installed the sensor in the same position on the new engine. However, that is like stabbing a distributor and hoping you are on the money with the timing. So, my question is about the procedure for timing that sensor.

If it is covered in the Haynes manual, then I will be fine. I have one on the way. If it isn't covered, can someone post the correct procedure to time that sensor?

Thanks in advance.

Yes it is covered in the manual. If I remember correctly, it isn't that bad of a job, worst part is pulling everything off to get to it.

Don't know if it's covered, but there's a thread here somewhere with a link to a full 97-03 factory shop manual in PDF form. Go to the end of the thread for the working download links.

Any one have that scanner?
If not, anyone have a reasonably priced scanner they would recommend?

Update;

I purchased that scanner, and it seems to work fine so far.
