Yup, it's just like any other motor.

So what did the oil look like (and how does it compare with the oil drained from the NA motors like the 5.0, 6.2, etc.)?

In my case, it looked and smelled the same as used oil from any of my other NA Ford vehicles; no noticeable difference.

Same here it was black you didn't want to get it all over the place just like every other time I've changed the oil. I could not smell any of the gas smell that sometimes is in a DI motor.

Thanks for the post....very helpful!

Just changed mine. Looked underneath first and couldn't figure anything out. Then I got smart and did a google search. Found this thread. Made things so easy.

Just a note. What a mess! I got oil everywhere in my driveway even though I "knew" what to expect. Oil from the engine got all over the anti-sway bar and spread. Also, I got a little oil dripping from the front "drain" as well as from the rear "drain" and from the rear of the metal shield. Should work better next time as I'll use the rectangular drain pan instead of the round one.

Thumbs down Ecoboost Oil Cjange

Just did this today. Nice write up it was helpful. I ended up removing the skid plate to prevent having an oily mess. It's heavy about 40 lbs I'd say. Took me almost 2 hrs since it was the first time on this truck.

When all is said and done, I had one question for the Ford designers - What were you thinking? Really?? I mean c'mon. With all the troughs and spigots to direct the oil from the filter through the hole in the skid plate, it looks like a Rube Goldberg design. The main oil drain is not bad - just ahve to remove a rear cover plate via thumbscrews, but the filter is a real pain...

I agree stupid design. I dont understand why it seems the placement of these things are an afterthought. The oil drain is dumb because its horitzontal and spits out two feet. Just overall a dum design. My diesel was a 10 min change this truck is a 30min change and more like an hour the first time I did it.

Thanks again for the write-up and thanks for the tip about the freight-train of oil. I made a bit of a mess, glad I put down some plastic in the garage first.

That drain plug makes no sense to me. It got me thinking of getting something like this:

Apparently you can swivel the drain so it's pointing straight down, or better still attach a hose and drain it right into a container.

I just googled it and found on another site that it's a Fumoto F107N (n for nipple) that fits the EB. It's straight-through, not a swivel, but you can attach a hose to it.

The oil life monitor doesn't just count miles, it takes into account how long the oil's been in the engine, oil temp during it's life, and quite a bit more info to determine when the oil needs changing. That's why we call it an "Intelligent Oil Life Monitoring System"
