Extended warranty yes/no

Like virtually every question, it depends.
Most importantly, how long do you plan to keep the vehicle? Are you gonna have it 7 years in order to take advantage of the extra warranty? Are you planning to do any mods that would potentially void the warranty?
Do you have the extra cash? Like john said, negotiate on the price. I laughed out loud when the finance chick gave me her spiel about warranties for this, protectants for that, etc. Her total warranty package would've raised my payment from $415 to $680 per month for 5 years!!! I declined everything.
Towards the end, she offered just the 75k extended warranty for $1,400. I took it, considering the first-year nature of the EB.

Shop around online there are some very good deals on Ford extended warranties. The best quote I've received so far is from Troy Dietrich at Ford of Greenfield in Mass. Here's a link to their site:

Ford ESP, PremiumCARE for 7 yrs / 75,000 miles:
$200 deductible - $994.00
$100 deductible - $1124.00
$50 deductible - $1204.00
$0 deductible - $1434.00

You can wait until your bumper to bumper is about to expire as I did, and buy whatever extra you might need. Just make sure you by a "real" Ford ESP warranty, there are some gimmicks out there. It is still possible to do after your warranty expires, but they will want to do an inspection on your truck and it is more $. After buying my warranty at the dealer on my other vehicle, I ended up going online to do the one for my truck. I called my sales guy at the dealer whom I trust and have bought or leased 10+ trucks with and he said it was a good deal, and the dealer couldn't match (they markup everything).
Also, I wouldn't worry too much about buying extra, you can transfer the warr. when/if you sell and it is a good selling feature should you need to sell at some point.

thanks for the info people.
I plan on keeping the truck for a very long time. it isn't a work truck, it's just my ride and sometimes travel trailer towing machine.
I don't drive hard and will put less than 15000 km on it a year.
I sent an email to the dealer to see if they'd bring it down. If not, I'll wait and shop around at a later date. Didn't realize you could do it online.

I have never purchased an extended warranty on anything and have never regretted it. I don't recall an instance when I would have ever used it. The extended warranties are one of the biggest sources of income for the dealers and auto manufacturers. Having said that, if I were buying an EB, I would have to think about it very hard. I have a feeling that those engines in these trucks are going to have some problems.

Depending on what state you live in, they are sometimes NOT negotiable. I live in Florida and they are regulated by the Insurance commission. You HAVE to buy them from a dealer in-state and they are the same price at every dealer. Check with your local laws.
I bought one in 2007 for my 2005 F150 and I was glad I did, I had a ton of issues with the truck.

i also agree about the florida law. bought my 2011 ecoboost this past weekend and went back monday and got the extended warranty. i also never buy a warranty but with all the electronics and the eco engine i decided to get it. they were hard set on 1422.00. no negotiating. got 6/60 bumper to bumper. i dont think 1422.00 would be a deposit on one turbo.
a couple trucks back up in nj the sales guy started the hard pressure and came down almost a thousand before he finally gave up.

The base warranty is a good deal. If I remember correctly it is 3/36k bumper to bumper and 5/60k drive train. So for that extra $1400 your getting 4/34k added onto the bumper to bumper and 2/12k added to the drive train. The last Ford I bought I purchased the extended warranty and never used it. All of the issues came up at 9 years and over 100k. I decided to not get the warranty this time. If I notice these trucks start having issues I will be buying one later.
