I have a 97' 4.2 f-150 Supercab & I am getting new 20' wheels for my truck. I wanna know if anyone out there has 20's on there trucks & how the truck rides & feels. I heard it becomes a cow!! These rims are very heavy!!Please let me know I still have time to get 18's instead but 20's look so awsome!!
thanks guys!!!

Hello power.
I work at a local tire shop and have a little experience with aftermarket rims. The concern you have is that you'll have a hard ride afterwards. It's not really the rim that effects ride, it's the tires. Larger, "thicker" tires will give you a softer ride. However with 20"rims, you'd have to raise your truck considerably to fit something like a 265/70/r20 on. If you plan on keeping the truck stock height or lowering it even, you have to go with "skinny", speed-rated tires. These types of tires are tough but do not allow for much absorption of shock, giving you a harder ride. hope that helps.
Also, try to get allum. rims if you can. The diff between steel and allm of that size is like 20lbs each. However, rims that size might lack strength if allum. Do what you like, enjoy! (Also, allum rims are lighter, saving the installers back!)

What I've done: K&N filter, Magna flow custom exaust (From where cat's join, 3"in, two 2.5" out the rear), Michelin LTX M/S 265/75/16's, MTX Thunderform custom box with two 6000 series 8" subwoofers and Mtx 120 amp.
Plans: Lund hood deflector, superchip, Poweraid, Xenon sport Flares, (custom ram-air idea?)

Hey 4.2Power and BJays Red, thanks for your input. I recently turned down an excellent deal on a 2000 Harley Davidson F150 because of the tires. The truck would not be the same without the harley rims, but my highways are not up to the standard of Fla. or Cal.(or anywhere else) I just changed my exhaust from in front of the rear wheel to dual out the back so can now buy some nice rims, Aluminium, for weight(and to save the installer a hernia)(my daughters call it a himnia). I will go with Michelin as you have, but do they have real winter tires or just all season? I prefer not to rotate my tires and have summer on the front and winter on the back(all year round).4.2Power, they'll say you're a Harley wannabe if you go to 20in. rims. 16in. are fine but maybe in Fla. 18in. would be o.k. (I don't know) Anyway enjoy your trucks. My $.02 Thanks again.

While we're talking tires, I can give you some really good recs. If you're going 17 or 18", look for Michelin Pilot LTX's. They're really awesome and one of the only mich truck tires you're gonna get in that size without going sport truck. They have an excellent tread design that'll give you traction in all weather, even designed for a little mud and snow use. Obviously, no tire will give you better traction than studded snow tires (winter tires) but this would be my way to go were I you. If you stay with the 16", really take a look at the mich ltx ms as I have. I really do love these tires, much better than the lousy goodyear ap's IMHO. They've been great in light dirt off-roading and the street handling is amazing.
Well I don't want to rample forever, hope this helps.
