Post DYNO RESULTS ! ! ! !

Well I spent the better part of 2.5 hours on the chassis dyno today. It was a cold day and that posed some problems, but they were soon overcome and I would have to say that today was a real eyeopener! First off let me state the present conditions: Temp: ~40*, Wet, cold, snowy.

Run#1: Pure stock truck, no cool down after 45 min. drive to dyno. All pulls were shut down at 5450 RPM (hit speed limiter).
HP: 162.5 @ 4500
TQ: 207.7 @ 3250
Run#2: K&N, Gibson exh., cool down allowed.
HP: 164.3 @ 4600
TQ: 207.9 @ 3400
Run#3: K&N, Glass pack, NO COOL DOWN
HP: 170.6 @ 4400
TQ: 214.4 @ 3500
Run#4: K&N, (left glass pack on due to power gain), cool down, ICY NOS BOTTLE(1st mistake of day..)
HP: 172.8 @ 4400
TQ: 216.8 @ 3550
Run#5: Same as above with warm NOS bottle(this gets hairy...)
HP: 412....bad reading, a lead came loose, although I would mind the number....
Run#6: This was the last run of the day and would prove to be the best effort because it was getting late and other things needed tending too. This was done same as Run#5 without hairyness...drumroll please......

HP: 244.7 @ 4300
TQ: 292.0 @ 3800

I was sincerely amazed! This is at the rear wheels! The bottle pressure was a steady 950psi, with the 100 hp jet. The truck was seeming to get stronger as the room became a little warmer from our futile attempt to heat a huge garage with 2 small space heaters(although it worked after about an hour...). I expect the number to climb with the addition of a NO2 friendly chip, a CAI, and gears. I noticed that the K&N netted no gain, yet seemed to help when the rpms got nice and high, the torque and HP curves were astonishing-almost a horizontal line from 2200 to 4400. I have established my new shift point. It is down to 4300 from 5000. If it doesn't snow this weekend I will head to the track for some real world numbers....

Very interesting numbers, specially the glasspacks! Are you chipless at this point I didnt see where you added in the chip from your pure stock run? Keep up the good work, your topics always get my attention!

Very impressive numbers! I just have one question having to do with the stock run. How is your truck set up? What rear gears do you have, is your trans a stick or auto, and what size tires are you running?
The reason I am asking is I have been wanting to get my truck dynoed also and I wanted a stock HP figure to work off of.
Again I will say VERY impressive

Cool

ILUVNOS,Under normal circumstances I just read the posts and get ideas.
However after reading this thread it sparked more interest.
Sure would be nice to see some pics as these would help us visualize a future mod.

Good Job!!!

Shooter- I'm moving to Az. around the 28th of January. I'm going to go to the Ford F.A.C.T. school there.

I'm going to get the recording up as soon as I find some websapce to upload it. But don't hold the quality against me-it's a laptop with a crappy mic.

My truck was not run with the chip because we were waiting to get those runs in last( funny logic) it came down to te fact that it was late and we will have another day. I expect even better results in stock form with the chip....hopefully I can get the $$$ for a flip chip.

My truck is a 5-spd., it was run on stock rims and tires at the dyno, and has 3.08 gearing. The tires I have been inclined to switch to are GY Comp. T/a's on stockers those will be included with the next session.

As far as the glass pack making more power than the gibson is a complete suprise to me. I'm leaning towards the amount of backpressure that is needed for this engine. The single in dual out gibson always felt a little airy down low and maybe even a little bit much flow up top. With the pack on the torque improved down low(good) and there was just enough flow up top where it kept things torquey even in 5th gear. I'm gonna try to improve on this by keeping stock pipe location, but have a mandrel bent pipe put in place of the stock(ie. gibson sans muffler). I already am helping a friend of mine who owns a muffler shop build a high flow cat pipe that won't trip the E-light.

I think that covers almost everything....

I think as far as go fast mods are concerned I'm done. I'm now gonna go in and see if there is any room for major tuning and part matching- This is where it gets interesting...

You only have the 3.08 rear end.Have you considered a gear switch? The 98 that I had had the 3.08.It was ok but the 3.55 in my new truck are alot better.I can only imagine what 4.10s would be like.

Changing gear ratios will not change the amount of horsepower to the rear wheels.

Yeah, on the road the truck with the higher gears will be quicker, but the dyno isn't measuring acceleration, just HP and torque.

That is exactly what I was getting at.On the road quicker equals more dead bowties.

Question

any way to guesstimate what the #'s would be with 3.55 gears?
