how did you get the 238 figure? If you had it dynoed, then I am running about the same you are. Guess that is more HP than a stock 4.6l

Dear JDm,
Welcome to F150online!
And don't take the kidding here too seriously. The main thing is that we have to be realistic about what kind of actual power gains can be had from the various aftermarket parts available, and we'd be the first to agree on that.
Just to give you an idea, I don't think anyone (other than the manufacturer, perhaps)has actually had the new Airaid kit for the 4.2 V-5 F-150 on the dyno yet, but the Airaid units for the 4.6 V-8 and the 5.4 V-8 have. We've seen 12 hp from either of the kits (Airaid or K&N's FIPK kit)for the 4.6 V-8, and 14 hp for either kit for the 5.4 V-8 on the late-model F-150. It's just too early to have independant numbers for the Airaid kit for the 4.2 V-6, but I'd guess that we'll see probably about 10 hp at best, though I could be wrong, it may be a little more or a little less. Add that to your 205 hp stock figure, and you get about 215 hp. or so, just by way of a quick estimation. Then figure maybe 6-8 more hp from your exhaust mods, gets it to maybe about 223 hp or so, at the flywheel. Keep in mind, this is of course an estimation.
The Superchip will add a maximum of 25 hp & 31 lbs./ft. of torque to the stock 4.2 V-6 at the flywheel. That is assuming a fresh motor with just enough miles on it to loosen up properly (4000-8000), under ideal conditions in the dyno cell. Some V-6's with more miles on them, or not so fresh, or under different circumstances may gain 18-20 hp at the flywheel, just like the V-8's and any other engine can vary, just to give you an idea. One thing that rings true with most aftermarket manufacturers is that these figures are almost always based on absolute ideal conditions, and best-case scenarios. Another thing to keep in mind is that you cannot always add the maximum gain claims from each individual part change, and come up with a realistic *total* horsepower figure as a result. That is exactly why your estimation of 238 hp is perhaps a bit optimistic based on looking at the mods you've listed in your signature line(airbox elimination & FLowmaster exhaust), for example. Taking that figure and then adding a Superchip (+25 hp optimally), and saying that you now have 263 hp (238+25=263) may be a bit optimistic.
Just to give you another way to look at what the Superchip by itself will do, we can talk horsepower numbers all night, but what you can reasonably expect to see is about a 10%-12% increase in peak power in that vehicle, that's it. That's a nice gain for the cost of the product, of course, and most people also see a bit of an improvement in gas mileage as well, primarily when cruising on the highway.
At best, most of the time on these vehicles changes like optimizing the programming with the Superchip, reducing restriction on the intake side with an airbox elimination kit, and reducing restriction on the exhaust side with a top name-brand cat-back exhaust system will work very nicely together and compliment each other. At worst, a mis-matched set of mods can work to *reduce* performance in some cases, so it pays to do your homework, and talk to people who have actually done the modifications you're thinking about, to see what their results actually were.
Basically, the top 3 modifications on these F-150's, and most late-model computer-controlled vehicles are: 1.) Optimize the programming with the Superchip. 2.) Reduce restriction on the intake side using an airbox elimination kit. 3.) Reduce restriction on the exhaust side, using a top name-brand cat-back exhaust system. #2 and #3 are very, very close, by the way.
So you're basically in decent shape, and choosing the "right" mods that will work well together, we just have to be realistic about the total net power gain from all of them together.
Please feel free to give us a call at our number below, and we'll be happy to go over all of this with you in detail, so you'll have a good feel for what you can reasonably expect.
Just one quick suggestion if I may, when you type in all capitals it is considered "SHOUTING", and is harder to read.
Good luck with your truck,

Why the hostility towards the V6 guy? You guys were fourtunate enough to have the financial resources to purchase the v8 and maybe he was not. I know when I bought my truck, I wanted an F150 XLT SC and I wanted the stepside.. The only way for me to get the looks I wanted was to go with the v6 which was a couple of thousand less than the same truck with the 5.4 v8. (Remember, the v6 often has more dealer incentives).
Also, according to my owner's manual, my truck can tow 5800 lbs stock with the v6 and 3:55 gears.. I am not sure where some of the previous numbers came from, but according to Ford's own figures they are incorrect. I have had a 2200lb trailer loaded with about 3800 lbs worth of stuff in it and I towed it with very little problems. Granted, I did not have to go very far and towed on a flat surface, but I had no problems pulling it under these conditions.
While I am sure the v8 is much better in many ways than my v6, our trucks are not without their place or value. Please do not knock those of us who drive the v6s. Remeber, we all are here for a common purpose and I am sure it is not to beat each other up or establish some kind of heirarchy whereas the "5.4 V8 OWNERS" somehow have more value than those of us with sixs'.
Too many times we forget what we have and concentrate on what we don’t have. What is one person’s worthless object is another’s prize possession. It is all based on one’s perspective.

So in havin said all that, I guess I have 254 HP now? Got the Airaid and the Flowmaster. 235 stock + Airaid + Flowmaster = 254 hp.
Mike, how much Horse power do you think the 40 Series Flowmaster gives me? Just been wonderin. I was told about 7 or so? Just a ballpark figure would be nice. Hopefully I will get a chip soon.

Man, are you guys all wet on your horsepower numbers, especially the Superchip guy. I gained 11 hp / 13 ft-lb with my Superchip. Here is the dyno graph to prove it...
Here are the mods on my truck...
ASP Underdrive Crank Pulley
Superchips
Dynomax Superturbo muffler with dual outlets
4.30 gear
Pro-M 70mm MAFS
Modified stock air box for better flow
K&N Filter
Taking my 180 horsepower and a 20% power loss for an automatic transmission, yields 225 horsepower at the crank. I have gained a grand total of 15 horsepower versus my advertised rating of 210.
This is the plain truth of the matter. If anyone else wants to publish their dyno graphs for 31 hp improvements with a chip, 12 hp air cleaners and 20 horsepower exhausts, I would like to see your data! If you are unwilling to share your data with everyone else on this board, I suggest that you just keep it to yourself. I, for one, am tired of hearing the overblown claims of miracle horsepower elixars and the snake oil salesmen pushing them. It just ain't so!
