well for a chassis dyno, it measures rear wheel horsepower. Fords published numbers are at the crank. Figuring about 20% drive line loss, the 205 hp the engine has, actually displaces 170 of it to the ground. most of the guys here are correct. with my few mods I'd be lucky to see 180hp. but the real number is torque, which i hope to see hit 230.

the only way to see 270hp out of a 4.2L V6 is with a turbocharger/supercharger and a built engine (cam, pistons, rods, etc)

go ahead and try it, your driveline won't survive, to max out your motor in 4th will be like 150+ MPH

2nd gear with OF off and you'll be fine as long as the dyno operator knows how to make the adjustments...

I think Raptor has a 5 speed manual on his 4.2

Maybe your 4.6 revs higher than his 4.2.

110 mph+- in 4th for a 4.2 liter w/5 speed sounds about right to me if the speed limiter is removed. There are some 'calculators' you can plug into on line that will calculate your speed if you know the rpm, transmission ratios (1.0 for him in 4th gear), final drive ratio and tire size.

Doubt it, both shift at the same point. OD is .70 for me. I've had my truck to close to 130 without breaking a sweat.

Overdrive with an auto is 0.7, it's 0.8 with the manual.

With stock 29 inch tires and 3.55's, 5200 rpm in 4th with the manual is 126 mph.

But 5,200 rpm is well past the power peak, on the 4.2 anyways. Maybe it would pull that on a dyno, but I think a 4.2 would be hard pressed to push the wind anywhere near that hard.

Blue Oval - what rpm were you turning? Speedometers are often very inaccurate above 100+ mph. You must have a very strong running truck if you are doing a true 130 mph without breaking a sweat.
