Need a new radiator- questions

Well a few months back a crack developed in the plastic on the passenger side of my radiator. We threw in some stop-leak (VERY bad idea) and that solved it. But today after sitting for a few days I drove it to the store to come out with a puddle of green **** dripping from my bumper.

Now, my truck with my two efans cools fine, but if its REALLY hot out and I have the A/C blasting, my temp gauge goes to around 240* (with a 180* thermo). I was curious if a dual-core radiator will solve this since there is more surface area to disperse the heat. Also, will a dual-core be a direct swap in place of my single core?

First off, don't use that junk in your cooling system! It is sodium silicate... which coincidently, is the same stuff the CARS program used to seize engines.

Secondly, you just cost yourself more money because you should replace everything - water pump, hoses, etc to avoid cross contamination.

Lastly, getting a dual-core radiator is not needed. The regular single core radiator is all that the v6 needs... and it's more than plenty if you are running a set of decent fans or a clutched engine fan.

Lesson learned

I'm not replacing anything else other than the radiator

I'm running decent fans, but with A/C pulling hot air off the condenser and onto the radiator, it runs a little warmer than normal

Went with the dual-core. It was $16 cheaper than a single core.

I went with a dual core replacement just because I could. It's not going to overcool by any means. If you have a thermostat that is

If I wanted to patch the plastic tank I would have just used epoxy

Rad was 13 years old, fins all bent to hell and i know that stop leak stuff clogged a few fins. It was about time i replaced it. I love my new dual core. Truck cruises at 175* and it takes a good 5-10 minutes of idling before my fans kick on. and when they do they only run for 20 seconds before its back down

Raptor,
Where did you end up getting a new radiator from and what was the cost?
