What's involved in upgrading from V6 to V8
I've got a '99 f150 V6 that's got about 160,000 on it. Still runs good but I'm starting to get a few misses and slips in motor and tranny. I love the truck so I'd like to keep it but I would really like a V8. Maybe a 5.4 or better yet find a used motor and tranny out of a Lightning to install.
My question is what all will be involved in making that swap? I assume the computer and most electronics will have to be replaced also. Thanks for any advice guys. |
My oppinion would be run to the local wal mart and get you a for sale sign sell it, and buy you a V8

IMO
wutecht has a point, but it depends... for one thing, how much do you enjoy doing this kind of thing, what experience do you have, what tools do you have, etc. personally, i would go for it. but, i've done one swap already, though it was a like engine, and i had already done the trans swap (from a broken manual to an auto). here's the key: research! like you are doing here. First, get the factory manuals for both old and new engines at a minimum!!!!!!! |
Thanks for the advice. I actually enjoy this type of stuff. I'm pretty mechanical and my dad knows his stuff if I get stuck. The truck is paid for so I don't have to worry about that just need to come up with the parts.

In your opinion would it be worth the extra money to try and get a lightning setup or just go with a 5.4?
|
if you have to do it, go big or go home make it a lightning post pictures during the swap

I have the same plans for my 02, flareside. The body is in awesome conditon, but one of my friends has a chev. 1500 and I can't wait to blow his doors off when i put a lightning motor in my truck! wanting to run 11's in the 1/4
