I just took a trip from Joplin to Worcester MA and Red Bank NJ, and got 21 mpg - cruise control all the way on Interstates set at 4 mph over the limit, and ran the A/C about half the trip. This was also on E-10. Truck is stock except for the exhaust, it has a glasspack with dual outlets. On the way back, I got 19 mpg till I hit some nasty headwinds, those dropped that tank to 16.4 (and that tank was pure gas, no ethanol). I was also running it then with the bed cover rolled back and some furniture in the bed.

Yea something definitely ain't right (but you already know that ). Heck, I averaged about 16 mpg last year on a 2K mile round trip from MD to FL and back again. My truck was also loaded down with furniture, travel cargo, me, the wife, my 90lb. Labrador, etc, and I was going about 75-80 most of the time. That's pretty good considering the large tires and especially the gears I'm running, but this truck is mostly for working and towing.

I'd check those plugs again and try to find out why they are getting fouled. Good luck man.

My '99 was normally getting 17-18 mpg, until my usual gas station starting with "gasohol". Mileage dropped to 15 or less! Took me a while to figure it out - looked for vacuum leaks, checked for bad MAS, etc... finally, after a couple months, I noticed the (small!) sticker on the pumps at the gas station telling about alcohol in the gas. I went to a different station after that with "real" gas - mileage immediately went back up where it belongs. Gasohol sucks!

Problem is - finding gas without ethanol is getting harder and harder - here in MO all gas is 10% by law now. However, I can drive 15 minutes to KS and get real gas - and it's 30 cents a gallon more than what I'm paying here.

I'm thinking of converting to LPG - anyone with any thoughts on this?

Gas

I fill up at Quicktrip everytime. I dont know about the achole content tho. Mileage improved a bit when the warmer weather hit but a couple weeks ago it droped off again. I did last week check the fuel pressure after i heard the fuel pump moaning after a good long hual. Its cooled down and dont moan anymore. The fuel pressure was 36 with key on not running for a consatnt 10 min period and then 30psi when the engine is idleing. I do know the spec is 35-45 psi with just the key on. Could a weak fuel pump cause this gas mileage issue?
