Ford F150 Transmission and EcoBoost V6

I am interested in a new Ford F150. Need information on the transmission problems. Also, need info on the Gas Millage arround town and on the highway with the EcoBoost V6 engine.

Welcome! There have been some discussions of gas mileage but not a lot on transmissions. You can look for previous threads a couple of ways. You can go to the 2009-2012 forum and also the V6 forum and look down the list of titles to see what you may be interested in reading. Also, you can click on the Search button above, go to Advanced Search and enter Ecoboost. You should get lots to read.

I'm sure you will get some posts in this thread, but that will give you some reading until then.

Also, I'm going to move this from the Intro forum to the V6 forum.

I just had a bad leak on my tranny. There is no dipstick or way to put fluid back in. It started wit some hard shifting and got worse from there. I took it in and it was repaired under the warranty. Service was great and they gave me a free loner car. I think they said it was around the pump. the last couple of days it was leaving a lot of fluid on the carport and the last day it left a trail all the way down the street.

I think what happened was a lot of fluid collected in the tranny cover and when I moved the truck, a lot was spilling out. They also replaced the cover because it was soaked.

Gas milage will depand on which truck you get. I can get over 22 average if I try, but if I just drive normal the gas average is around 20. Most of my milage is Highway but I go into town alot too.

Yes there is, it's under the truck. You have to take a plug out.

I figured there is a way or they would have not been able to do the repair. There is just not a way known to me by reading the owners manual. Im sure the service manual has a way. I did have the transmission temp app up the whole time and it never got over 201 degrees, and that was driving to work on the tollway at 75. Normal operating temp is 195.
Care to enlighten us more?

My 4x2 is getting 15-16mpg on surface streets (which is impressive given Austin gridlock). I get 21-22 on the Highway.

As for transmission problems, I had that weird 2->1 shift when in automatic mode. Took the truck into the dealer earlier this week for the Reverse recall and they updated my shift calibration and cleared the Keep-alive memory. Seems to have fixed the issue. Other than that 0 complaints.

I have never been under a 09+, but from what I understand, there is a plug in the tranny case itself that you unscrew to add fluid, and it has a dipstick attached to it.
