4.2 v6 Flywheel
I have a 99 4.2 v6 supercab and i had a problem starting it, it would make a loud whirring/grinding/spining noise. I took off the starter and found out the starter was fine but the flywheel teeth were grinded off. So i pulled the tranny back and took off the torque converter and replaced the flywheel. Now after having put everything back the motor wont turn. The starter kicks out but the flywheel wont turn. I removed the starter and had it check only to find out its still good, so now im stuck.

The only thing I can think of... is can your turn the flywheel by hand?

ok after messing with it again, i realized that when bolting up the tranny and the whole thing is upright with crossmember and every brackets bolted tight, the flywheel/torque converter wont turn. When o losen the tranny and pull it back a bit the flywheel turns. I took off the starter and found that the nut/bolt from the torque converter seems to be lock/jammed against the engine, not letting the wheel turn. when my buddy put the torque converter back on he tightened one nut then spined the torque converter around and did the next nut, and so on and so on. Could this have anything to do with it ?

Sounds like you where just trying to crank the bolts down without a torque wrench. I would tighten them as evenly as possible using a torque wrench, kinda like you would your wheel.
If you are using a torque wrench slowly work your way to the recommended specs. Example: recommended specs 45 ft. lbs. Do 35, 40 then 45. |

does anyone know the torque specs for the flywheel bolts on a 99 4.2 v6 automatic.

ok turns out the torque converter bolts were tightened all wrong, one was torque way too tight and the others were just snug. This caused that one bolt to stick to the block and not allow the flywheel to turn.
