IMRC questions

I've never heard of an IMRC before today, wish I still hadn't. Anyways, I have a 98 F150 with a 4.2 and around 175,000 miles. The other day the light came on so I went out to have the code read. Came back as P1538, bank 2 IMRC stuck open. After an hour or 2 of reading here I went out to take a look. Couldn't find any vacuum leaks, once help arrived I had him rev up the engine while I watched what I could see of the linkage.

With the motor off the linkage was in one position, when started it went the other way and when revved went back. Both IMRC's appear to be working. Now for my questions:
1) Which is bank 2? I know on my 97 Tbird that would be the drivers side so I would assume the same here. (I can watch the drivers side one much better)
2) Which is the open position, at idle or high rpm's?
3) Is there an easy way to clear the code? On the Tbird you just pull a fuse and it clears everything, not sure on the truck.

I'm hoping it just stuck open once and freed itself. Looks like a major pain to get to these things. The whole upper manifold would have to come off and then from what I've read here the bolts that hold them onto the lower manifold aren't much fun to get at either. Answers to any of my questions, suggestions, or any other input would be greatly appreciated.

Unhappy

When I had my 97 the IMRCs went out.Codes 1537,1538 were both stored.Anyway,$690.00 to Ford and my codes went away.
4.5 hours of fleet labor @ $75.00 per hour,2 IMRCs @ $156.00 each,gaskets and oil change,+ tax = $690.00!
There was no way in hell I was going to do that job!
