Cool V-6 Engine (more Power)

I JUST GOT A 2007 FORD F-150 WITH THE V-6 ENGINE. HOW DO I GET MORE POWER WITHOUT SINKING ALOT OF MONEY IN IT?

Ummmm,,,,,,,,,, what? Why would you get a truck that didn't have enough power? You should have got the two more cylinder option.

Tuner, exhaust, and intake and call it a day! That V-6 will never be fast w/o spending lots of money and don't take that as an insult, the V-8 aren't fast either!

Honestly, the F150 even with the 5.4l is a Flying Brick. You would only see gains in the towing abilities. Forget the speed.

Oh, and what transmission do you have BOO 71?

EVERYBODY WHO BUYS A TRUCK, A 4,6,OR 8CYLINDER, IS ALWAYS ASKING THE AGE OLD QUESTION,HOW TOO GET MORE POWER? SOME PEOPLE, LIKE ME, LIKE THE V-6 IN A F-150. BETTER GAS MILEAGE IN A V-6.

What kinda MPG you seeing there? Either way I bet it is crappy overall. If the V-6 got 5 mpg overall better than the V-8 I would have gotten that instead.

Averages from the 5.4 are 15, 16 with the 4.6, and 17 for the 4.2. One good thing about smaller displacement engines is that usually the power adders push the HP higher up in the RPM range, generally providing better MPG in the lower RPM's (ex: light driving). That is why most 4 cylinder engines get better mileage when you add exhaust, intake, and tuners. With higher displacement engines you are creating more low end and TQ which burns more power!

a good source of info is muscle mustangs and fast fords or ford truck performance magazine. i've seen articles of modifies v6's pushing 500-600 hp. running low 10's and even high 9's. you wont do that in your truck unless you plan to sink some major money. but a 100 shot on nx or ported heads, cam exhaust and a tune and you should be sittin' at the same hp level as the v8's if not more.

Standard stuff - cold air intake, performance exhaust, tuner chip. Lower rear axle ratio.

Are there any mild performance cams available for the newer 4.2 f150's? like 04-07's. Summit racing has nitrous setup that is adjustable from 75-125, or something like that, for around $600-700. Thats if you already have tuner, exhaust, and intake. Airaid has a new intake box, but thats about all there is as for intakes for the new trucks.

Personally, the 4.2l v6 has enough power... the 4.6l and the 5.4l v8 is luxury in my eyes. I mean if you are going to tow more than 7500# might as well get a F250 or higher. Mind you, a F150, F250, etc, no matter what engine is still slow. Ok... just a little bit faster... not race car fast though. Racing F150s are ok... but nothing like a Mustang Cobra with a F/I setup. Now that's fast.

I've towed 6000# boat with my '99 and had no issues. My '07 should do ok too. The largest load I've carried has been about 4500# with the '07. But it had no problems. I can't understand why people with the 5.4l V8's are complaining about towing 4000#... and have tough times going up hills.

When I towed my boat, I never had to use 2nd up hills. Just 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Even when I did used 3rd, the overtaking power was great for that load with my engine combination. I think the max loss I ever had going up a 2 mile mountain was about 8 to 10 mph when I was in 4th, and when I downgeared to 3rd, it had no issue getting back up to speed.

The only complaint I had was the gas mileage... it was disgusting. I was getting like 12 mpg...

When I get around to installing my 4.10's... woah... I betcha I could pull 6000# again and leave it in 4th.

Not only have I seen lots of 4.2's pulling double axle trailers loaded with tools not to mention their beds filled with tools miles high, but others have seen this too. Around here our telephone company has a few F150s with the 4.2l v6's and they've never had a problem with them... even with all the severe duty they put on them.

I haven't really put mine to the test, but I have hauled #1200 in the bed a couple times and it didn't make any difference in city/highway driving. I drove like I always do, and was mostly in the fast lane. I already had my 32" tires too, with the stock 3.55. Mpg did go down a little though, but thats because I didn't want to downshift on some hills, instead I gave it more gas.

They're slow, but good workers.
