How do I change PCV? ('99 4.2l)
How do I change PCV? ('99 4.2l)
Not sure how to get to the pcv hose, has anyone changed theirs? I am guessing the hose is leaking, truck makes noise like pcv and has vacuum leak. Runs ok, but I am getting tired of the weird rattling it makes. I ordered the hose and valve from the dealer, will be changing it this week. Anyone have pictures of the procedure? Thanks again. :santa:
Just reach back there and pull the valve from the grommet in the valve cover.Install new valve.BTW,its a good idea to change the grommet too.Pull the hoses that are damaged and replace with the ones in the kit.If you're replacing the plastic line from the valve to the throttle body tie a string to one end. When you pull it thru the intake unhook it and tie the string to the new line and pull back thru.Trust me,this will save you alot of time and no four letter words shouted so loud the neighbors will hear you!
great.....thanks!
Thanks for the tip!
I mentioned this in an earlier post, the truck makes a sound like a cordless drill running, for a few seconds (bzzzt....bzzt, kind of noise), only at low rpm's. Runs fine, but has vacuum leak (fan switches from heat to defrost on hard acceleration). So, I guess the pcv valve and associated rubber hose(s) may be the trouble? This truck has 98k miles on it. Sound likely to be pcv hose?
Thanks again for the info, BlueOvalFitter, and have a nice holiday!:santa:

Behind your battery there is a cluster ******* of vacuum lines and a vacuum box.To get to it you must remove the battery and battery box.Sometimes battery acid gets back there and causes havoc.Look into this first before anything else.
