I know what I wouldn't do and that is use anything with the words Bosch on it.....

I use Motorcraft plugs and wires-they work well and no problems to report. It is said that high performance wires and plugs generate more spark-I don't figure it will unless you have a high performace coil pack.

Aftermarket high-performance wires can deliver a "more efficient" spark if they have a lower resistance than the OEM wires. But not a more powerful spark. All they do is make the path from the coil to the plug more conductive.
Thus, making your engine run more smoothly at idle, increasing mpg, and maybe add a few hp.

I don't know about plugs. I just use Motorcraft.

Yea, like Peacemaker said......

Wires can be expensive depending on what you get. I said they generate more spark but of course the coil pack does that. Sorry, my mind is on my friends who bought it the other day in A Land.

Ihave put a "more efficient" plug wire set on my truck but I don't really notice the difference...

I noticed a slightly better mpg, better idling, and slightly better power after I changed mine @ 63,000 miles. I've changed the pcv and fuel filter too, so that might have helped a little also. How many miles did you have on your's when you changed them?

Let's see, what's next? Oh yeah, I'm gonna try some Royal Purple ATF in my manual tranny and see if it'll shift a little better. Maybe it'll clear up the notorious 3rd gear grind. Maybe not, but wth? I need one of those pumps to get the ATF in the tranny. I've got a plastic tube that screws onto the top of the oil bottle that I've been using, but that sucks having to manuever the bottle in there to get it all to drain out.

Well, I tried the Bosch platinum plug thing at about 100,000kms (whatever that is in miles, around 62,000 miles I guess). The truck ran like crap so at about 105,000 kms I changed the plugs to motorcraft and the wires to accel.

I have changed the pcv valves, put a cold air kit on, changed my exhaust, cleaned the total intake (throttle body, IAC, MAF, intake ports, etc, etc...) I changed the fuel filter and had the tranny flushed, the coolant system flushed and the fuel system serviced (flushed and injectors cleaned).

I also cleaned the EGR valve and since that I have found the truck idles better and gets very good mileage 438 miles to a tank or around 23 miles a gallon on the hiway at round 50 miles an hour. (see i was raised with the standard system but had to convert to metric when I was young so it takes a while to re-think to standard)...

That must be aggrevating.

That's some good mpg's. I've never calculated mine, but I know it's better compared to an automatic paired to a v8. Sounds like your big on maintenance like me.

I put the Synchromax in the old M5OD, and Max Gear in the rear dif. But, I dont know if it made any diffrence in the shiffting, couz about A month befor that I put A Hurst shiffter in, And man-o-man did that make A diffrence!! So I would say go for it, I don't know about numbers but, you can feel the power gains with the new Royal Purple lubes. And yes git A pump!
