Oil Question

I have a '03 V6 with 20,000 miles. Can you switch to synthetic oil after running regular oil for 20K miles??
I'm not worried about the expense. Any worthwhile advantage?
Any disadvantage (other than cost)? Anything to watch for or be concerned about?

Yes, you will be perfectly fine switching at that mileage; no concerns. The unquestionable advantage is that the product is superior. Other than cost, there is no disadvantage. I've been using synthetic oil since it was available in my area, which was 1985. I've put it in new, used, low mileage, high mileage, cars, trucks, motorcycles, and boats from a wide variety of manufacturers without a single problem.

So there is nothing to the rumor about leaks after switching?

As long as you don't have leaks, you'll be fine. Don't worry, Mobil 1 is a fine product and you'll never look back after you use it.

Just changed out to synthetic today. The NAPA guy said that the leaky seals thing use to happen in cars 10 to 15 years ago. That problem has since been fixed. That was the same thing I read from Mobil.
I figure over the lifetime of the truck it will cost me an extra $800 to $900 to change oil... But that's still cheaper if the truck lasts longer.
Thanks for your input.
