anyone want to burn that stupid 4.2L
I have had a 1997 ford f150 with the 4.2L in it (on the third one, and of course after warrenty). I was wondering what it would all take to swap everything for a 4.6L or 5.4L. anyone got a suggestion?:help:

97 4.2L are known for leaking head gaskets, I believe that is what you are reffering too. I haven't had a single problem out of my 2000 4.2L.

I just bought a 1998 with a 4.2L v6. 99600 miles.
How would I know if this gasket repair has been done or if it needs it? vin is 1FTZX1727WNB78788. Thanks for your help Kurt |
Actually the 97' is known for a leaky lower intake manifold gasket and timing cover gasket leaks. The timing cover was covered under a recall. The lower intake issue was not. You may notice a puff of white smoke every now and again when you start your truck up after it's been sitting a while, after having been driven a distance over 30 miles or so. Other signs are a blown motor. :)
