4.2 V6 mods
4.2 V6 mods
What would I put into my 4.2 V6 to make it the fastest it can be? What kind of a supercharger? What chip? Headers? Intake? Air filter? etc. The whole works without of course going into the unreasonable. Please send me any links that you may have and add costs of any items at least approximatly. Thanks.
well first off you could get a:
mac intake.................$150 + shipping
superchip or diablochip.......$210-$315
headers......................$300 + shipping
cat-back exhaust........$250-$300 + shipping
asp pulley...................$150 + shipping
e-fans.........................$250-$300 + shipping
nos.............................$500 + shipping
supercharger..............$3200 + shipping, install.
lower gears and not to mention internals. just a few things to mention. the prices might vary by a few dollars just depends where you buy them from. the supercharger is a vortech unit. the headers come from a company in california. just type in the search box the item your looking for and youll find what youre looking for. just something to help you get started with.

Try going to www.TroyerPerformance.com and looking around. Mike is helpful and can get you started with anything you need.
a thermostat is a t-stat you upgrade to a 180* thermostat rather than our stock 195* one. like i said for the BEST prices check with 4.0 Liter Performance for your headers, exhaust, intake, pulleys, and t-stat.
Those in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area are there any mod shops in the area that you prefer besides the one in arlington.

It is never a good idea to change the thermostat from the original 195* to something cooler unless your going to have a chip burned to take that into account. Changing to a colder thermostat with NO other changes to the computer program will more then likely make your truck run rich all the time. Not good for fuel mileage or plugs. You don’t really gain anything with the truck running rich.
Reason it would run rich is the computer thinks the engine is still in “warm-up” the computer is looking for the 195* temp to tell it to run at “optimimum” condition. You only get your best horsepower at optimimum operating temperature. So that is something to think about before wasting money and time putting in a different thermostat…

a t-stat is $5 and the richness you gain is extremely minimal. i was told so by Troyer myself. my Superchip is burned for my 4.10 gears, tire size, and headers. all my other mods are trivial to a chip.

The Vortech does't seem to get many rave reviews from members. The ProCharger is, well, in the works..

I wouldnt go with hedders or exhaust on your v6. just doesnt sound right. dont get me wrong the combination is a good start to modding your truck, but would sound kind of silly next to a stock v8. i would go for a chip, filter, pulley and a tstat, and some gears wouldnt hurt....but dont get the ratio too high (or low i guess i should say to be mathmatically correct) or you will get crappy mileage on long trips.
