BTW, getting like 12-13MPG
Every 15,000 miles or so...

Way cheaper insurance than cleaning clogged injectors.

You need to know how many gallons of fuel you had to begin with and how much you used in X amount of miles.

To have an accurate number, you need to begin with a full tank and reset your trip odometer. Then, at your next fill up, notice how many gallons are required to refill your tank and divide your mileage traveled by the amount of gallons used. What's really amusing is that the formula is printed in your owner's manual

Example: Last week, starting with a full tank, I traveled 158.8 miles. Today, it required 9.57 gallons of fuel to refill my fuel tank.

158.8/9.57=16.59 MPG
Generally when I figure out my milage what I do is write down how many miles I've driven and then when I fill my truck up, use the number of gallons I put in. So my math is pretty dang accurate instead of just saying, 450/25. Typically I get around 365 miles on 23 gallons, give or take a few numbers.

I have a 4.6L V8 2WD, and I get about 17 MPG, with about 75% highway driving And I usually put about 22 gallons in when it is about halfway between 1/4 tank and empty. Thus, I guess I DO have a 25.0 gallon tank

My trip from San Jose to Houston

map of the trip

_ miles _ gal _ mpg _ mph
1 365.6 16.88 21.65 70-75___LA
2 432.7 20.20 21.42 70-75___Casa Grande AZ
3 355.9 15.66 22.72 70-75___Anthony TX
4 138.8 05.85 23.72 65-70___Van Horn TX
5 452.5 20.45 22.12 70-75___Austin Tx
6 180.2 10.55 17.08 80______Houston TX

t 1925.7 89.59 21.49

As you can see. The mileage got worse over 75 mph. and a little better under 70. after the 2nd & 4th stops 22.72 & 22.12 mpg shows the affect of non-California gas on the fuel mileage when compared to stops 1 and 2 was California Gas.

My best mileage was going through El Paso @ 65mph. Its shown in stop 4. I was expecting only 19 mpg during this trip so an avg of 21.49 was excellent. Also I had a 1000LB load in the bed covered with a blue tarp.

I hope this info helps people on a road trip.

I had a similar trip, not near as long as you just showed but I went from Henderson, TX all the way to Charlotte, NC. I know my milage was probably around 18 on average. My average speed was, oh I'd say........ 80-85. Sometimes I'd hit my limit of about 97.

I forgot that my tire pressure was also set to 38lb front and back.

I had 32lb before the trip.
