Thumbs down make ur truck faster

I know exactly how to make your v-6 f-150 go much faster for very little $$cash$$ All you have to do is........ :go to walmart, buy a tow strap, and hook your truck to the back of a lightning!! i myslef own a V-6, and i have found that even with the exaust and chip..... not much justice is done. Sorry guys, theres nothing we can do.

I hear ya wezzlee, if you've been around the board much you would have heard the same from me. Minor bolt-ons don't seem to help all that much with the 4.2. I've got to say my truck is much better than it was though. Oh well, its fun to mess around in until I'm out of college and have a full time job.

It's too bad Talley isnt here anymore to put these 4.2 bashers in their place.

The fans seem to have done about the same power wise as the intake and exshaust put together. The mpg gain with the intake and exshaust had averaged about .5 mpg and was noticeable power wise but I had installed both at the same time. Glenn Taylor.
Remember, Electric fans do not add any HP, they free up the HP used by the mechanical fan. They are essentially "free HP" since you don't have to use any more fuel to get the increase in performance.

I'll be ordering Mike's E-fan kit as soon as I get my next paycheck.

Mitch:

Could you share some more info with us on Mike's fans? Check out the 1st page of this thread, I had a few questions in one of my posts. Thanks!

Is that- "Power gains run anywhere from a minimum of 15 hp at the rear wheels to some running as much as 18-20 hp depending on the dyno, etc." Pertaining to our 4.2L? What engine on our F-150's was dynoed when it produced those numbers? How much could we look to spend for the fan kit for the 4.2L? (sorry, I'll call if you cant answer that one.) Also, where do you feel the performance gains from these fans? Is it down low, below the 3,000 rpm mark, or? Will we feel a good increase in acceleration?

Thanks! 15rwHP or more? You have my attention! Any more info would be greatly appreciated.
I swapped to electric fans on my 87 Bronco with the 302. I immediately noticed an increase in power off the line, as well as the engine spooling up faster and with better response. The gas milage on the bronco improved very little, but how much of an increase can one expect from a lifted breadbox on 35" tires?

I do not know what the exact result of the electric fans on the 4.2 will be, I will find out soon. The mechanical fan assembly is always turning, thus sucking power from the engine. There is also the issue of rotating mass, but it's not as significant. From my repeated conversations with Mike, I decided that his kit sounds like the best one out there for the $$$. The cost of his kit is equal to 25 X 15 plus shipping.

On my 2001, I had the chip, intake, and exhaust. That truck was very quick, and would hold it's own against a 4.6. The main thing I can see hurting your performance is the auto trans. On the 4.2 there just isn't enough power to overcome the loss of the auto trans (slushpump).

My 2003 will have the intake, exhaust, chip, and electric fan setup. I'm expecting a very entertaining truck to drive. My 03 has the limited slip as well, the 01 didn't.

That sounds kinda steep (25x15)....Summit Racing has a kit for about 200 less. I know it isnt as good of a product, but come on! Thats double the price for something designed to do the same thing. I don't know, what do you think?

Mike's kit is comperable to the Flex a lite 280 kit for the fords that sells for 25X16. Having spoken to Mike on the phone numerous times, I trust his judgement and his product. I also like the redundancy of his kit, there is basically 2 complete systems with 2 separate relay sets, etc. The connectors and components are mil spec and heavy duty. I'm going to order it, and if it works as I expect I'll probably order 2 more sets (in time), 1 for the Bronco, one for my dad's 99.

I've tried going the cheap route on electric fans before, and I was very unhappy when they failed. I used a pair of permacool 16" electric fans in a custom shroud. They never cooled it as well as the stock fan did (on my Bronco). I know that Mike will stand behind his product 100% (within reason), wheras the warranty on the cheap sh*t is only 90 days.

I've also heard of using the single fan off a lincoln, but I haven't heard much about it lately. If it was a good mod I think more people would be talking it up.

The cooling system, tires, and brakes are not the places to shave off quality for the sake of a few $$$.

I hear that... I am waiting until I can get out of school and go broke over an L. Except I don't like the new body style so I'll have to see once I get out.

Mitch: Those are some good points, let me know when you get those fans in and blowin! Good luck with the install.

eposey: Yeah I wasnt too impressed with the new body either, it's starting to grow on me though. But hey, how can you pass up a blown 500+HP (with the supercooler) truck with a warranty!?! And you get to make the claim to people that; I drive the fastest production truck in the world! I cant wait, I've been dreaming about owning an L since they came out with the new body in 99.

Hey Falcon, do you have any pictures of your truck or of that cold air intake? I would like to see them.

I found a picture of one at stylin concepts. Looks cool. Just finished school so I am gonna work full time this summer and mod the hell out of the truck while I can.

Going for:
1st - Get different system in
2nd - (not sure if I will follow through with this one)Tint the windows with 5% & brow
3rd - Lightning wheels (maybe powdercoated in black)
4th - Intake, Chip, Exhaust

I don't think I'll have any trouble getting all of those by the end of summer.

YA that sounds do-able working full time, it took me about 2 summers working part time to get everything on my truck. And believe me, when I work part time it means PART TIME.
I think I'll hold off on any more mods. I've hit that point where I figure I wont have the truck more than 3 more years anyway, and the only mods that will give me the gains I want are really pricey.
