Cool Oil level?

So I have had my 99 v-6 4x4 f-150 for a long time, and everytime I change the oil it takes about 6.75 qrts. to get it right on the full line. I always worry that the dip-stick is wrong and that i put in too much and Im going to blow my seals out again. Is this odd, or does it happen allot? and is 6 qrts right, and the dip-stick is wrong or is the manual off by a little? Also I have been reading that the fram oil filters suck, Why? I have been using them for 50,000 and I am wondering if I should change? I run the best stuff I can get so i want a good filter to, but I thought I was getting that?

Thanks for the input

Generally my truck takes about 6½ quarts as do most so I hear. Nothign wrogn with that, and really I could get away with 6 quarts, but since the line on the dip stick is a little on the low side I always put a littl more so its a little on the high side, but with in recomended levels.

I dunno too much about the filters, but I was told that motorcraft is a pretty good one. I was told the model number for our trucks is FL400s I plan to try that one on my next oil change.

My dipstick always reads full with 6quarts of oil.About the filter;next time you start your truck listen to that clatter noise from that FRAM filter. Then, next oil change install a Motorcraft 400S filter and it will not clatter.Get my point?

The Fram's also have a real cheap filter element and I don't believe they have the anti-drainback valve the Motorcrafts do.

The Fram also uses cardboard end caps on the filter media. This can lead to failure and contamination of the oil. Motorcarft and Purolator have the best filtering media, largest surface areas, and strongest construction.
