Trouble codes

Hello to all!! I'm new to the board bu have had my '97 F-150 for 5 years or so. I just had an interresting thing happen last night. I have noticed a slight hesitation the last few days, but not horrible. Last night it got a whole lot worse. I pulled over and took a look see only to find a shower of arking around at least 4 cylinders. I've had this problem on other cars before. I don't think its able to advance past the base timming. Anyway it was enough to set off the check engine lght. On some of the GM cars you can run a jumper wire between a couple of terminals in the plug, When you do this it flashes the check engine light a certain number of times and thats the code for trouble shooting. Does anyone know if this is a possibility or will it take a trip to Autozone for a code scan? Thanks, Clint

On a 1997 model, you need the codes read with an OBD-II scanner. There's no way around it.

I figured that, I replaced plugs and wires yesterday and it seems to run fine now. I almost fell over at the price of the wires!! I have put braided accels on my Firebird for cheaper than these. Thanks again for the info, Clint
