WEll guys, this is my first time in here, and i like what i see so far. I Have a 4.2 V-6, and i get tired of getting my a$$ kicked most of the time. Ive heard that a chip will increase power, but does anyone know exactly how much power it will give me, or whats the cheapest route to gettin faster. Anything would help!!!

Go over to the computer chips forum on here and basically you can find anything you need to know about chips.

Also some of the best things to do are:

Intake
Exhaust
Chip

Those are probably where I would start out at. Then the cheapest way to make you go fast is nos. 50 to 75 horsepower gain (safely on a stock engine) for aprox. 500 bucks isnt bad.

you can talk about chips...dont scare him...as long as the go-fast chips you are talking about have olestra in themcause they will make you go fast..right to the bathroom!!

Word of advice Wezzlee, Get a new vehicle!!! If you wanted to go fast, then you really screwed up by buying a 4.2L F-150. It takes a lot of time and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to make these things even simi-fast. Also I need to know what you considor fast? Some people on this board think the 4.2 hauls ***. Me on the other hand, I think these things are slugs, it takes a ton of mods to even make it respectable. I can't wait until the day I get rid of this thing!!!

 

Oh wezzlee, you said you are tired of getting your a$$ kicked most of the time? What have you actually beatin in your 4.2? I would have expected you to say "I'm tired of getting my a$$ kicked every time."

WEll, honeslty I have won a few races in the 150, i beat a chevy extreme...yeah.....and the other ones i beat aren't worth mentioning. And about gettin another vehicle.... well considering that the truck was my fathers, and was then given to me when he decided it was too slow, i can't afford another one. All i want is a little get up. I dont want to burn the tires off everytime i touch the gas, i just wanna feel myself kicked back in the seat just a little bit when i stomp on it. AND putting the tailgate down? I have a bed cap............! good thinking though.

A Superchip, air intake, and pulley will give you about 30-35 more hp. The chip alone will net you 25 hp. If your looking for a little more get up and go, I say go with a Superchip!

Why do some people think the 4.2 is some weak POS. I have no problem with mine and yes it does haul some @@s for a V-6. As a matter of fact it is basically as fast as the 4.6 (V-8) I have beat 2 01 4.6's where I work. I didn't blow them away as a Lighting would, but I beat them by a good truck lengh or two.

If Talley were here he would know. That guy knew his sh*t and knew it well. I am sure there is someone here that knows the hp and torque diffenence between the 4.2 and 4.6. I believe the horsepower is only 10 - 20hp difference between the two.

Since I have a 5-speed (more hp to the rear wheels then with an auto) and the 4.6's both had autos (lose of hp to rear wheels compared to a manual) the hp and torque must have been pretty equal thus not making it very hard to beat them.

For the ones that insist that the 4.2 just sucks and has no ***** it is because you must not know how to drive it or have an automatic trans. That or you have a manual and dont know how to drive that bad boy the way your suppose to.

NOTE: If you put a superchip in a 4.2 it will have more hp and torque then a stock 4.6.
