Someone have a fly-swatter?

you know those 'build your own' things on car manufacturer's websites? a while back i 'built my own' '99 chevy that would be my truck's equivalent. of course, the chevy cost more. having high resale value is not always a good thing. people by what they can afford and they are not going to go for the overpriced used truck. that's why i didn't get the used '96 (or was it a '95) 1500 b/c it was too high (the dealer was asking for over $20K). high resale value is not good when you can't get the darn thing sold.

DANO,
That's kind of unusuall, 9.9 times out of ten you will get more out of your truck/car by selling it privately than you will ever get by a dealer on trade in value. I paid 15300 for a 91 f150 lariat 4x4 new and believe or not got 10000 back out of the truck when I sold it before recently buying the new truck. Taking account the truck was in excellent condition exterior and interior and I had meticulously maintained my truck. I can live with that anytime on a truck I had nine years. It may be different in KC but in my neck of the woods a used 4x4 regardless of make brings a quick sale and usually good price.
Oh yeah, the dealers I talked to only wanted to give me around 7000 for my old truck. I didn't have the truck for sale about a day and a half before if was sold. Might just be the market your in.

DANO,

Serious, why don't you leave? You are not contributing anything useful to anyone here. You have been asked more times than once. Youre losin' it.

98 F150 XLT Supercab
2 tone midnight blue/silver
4.6L V8
tow package
sliding rear window
am/fm cassette with 6 Disc CD changer
keyless entry/alarm
3.55 gears
California emissions
carpeted floor mats

$22,000 ($200 over dealer's invoice). The truck was enroute to the dealership so I only waited a couple days. Exact color and had everything I wanted with the exception of the keyless entry and CD changer but I'm damm glad I got them, great additions. Yep, dealt with the Fleet service manager through the internet. Only way to do it, saves time and hassle. Dealer told me they made their money on the holdback program. Love the truck but looks like I'll be going to a F250 for more towing power. Dealer offered my $19,700 on trade-in, about $300-400 less then Kelley Blue Book retail.

JD - is that trade-in quote against the F-250's MSRP or something closer to invoice? Call me skeptical, i just assume they'll play you when they get an opportunity.

Yea, I'm that way also. I already had worked a price on a F250 LD before I let them know of my trade-in. I believe they never really give you what they say but in this case it appears they are. Same options as my F150 with the exception of 3.73 gears and a 5.4L engine.

FINALLY!! I ordered my '99 F-150 XLT 4x4 SC today!

5.4L
Automatic
3.73 LS
ORP (LT265 17" AT & skid plates)
Electronic 4x4 shift
Harvest gold
Captains chairs (with power)
Keyless entry
Trailer tow pkg
6 disc CD changer
Sliding rear window

Much like other members of this post, I would have gotten the Lariat but I don't like leather much.

MSRP was just over $31,400
My total was 1% over invoice ($27,645)

I whole-heartedly recommend going straight to the fleet sales manager. I probably would not have done so if I had not seen it mentioned on this site. THANKS!

P.S. I may not have "won this game", but I'm VERY happy!!! Now I just have to wait...

Jim

4/18 update

Changed my mind on the 4x4 and had dealer drop it from order, but I did step up to the F250 LD. Everything else same.
MSRP of $28385, I got for $25117.

Still feeling good!

on a budget (raising 3 kids and modifying a 56 F100), bought a used leased 97 SC XL with 8' styleside bed. It has 4.2 L and 5 speed. It had 33,000 miles. price $13,500
Have added K&N, bug and air deflectors, billet grill, & fiberglass cab-high topper. Next on list; wheels and 2"/2" lower.
My truck has a Ford 10 disc CD player under the back seat but all I've seen on this site is a 6 disc player. What gives?
