Thumbs up

The 5 speed manual is the only way to fly, with an auto you are just part of the parts, With the 5 speed you "find the gear you need for speed".

I wanted to know how the 5 speed hooked up with the 4.6 compares to the automatic combo?

I test drove one with an auto and thought it was ok, I imagine the 5 speed would be much better.

I’ll be getting it in May.

I wish my off-road package had a 5-speed, I miss the sportiness aspect. Unfortunately, 5-spd is not available with 5.4, I make due with E4OD. It's ok don't get me wrong, but the shift point is lagging, due to tow package configuration. I like auto to bang thru the gears rather than belabor the shift point... B&M did firm up the shift, but did nothing to improve shift point. Suppose I need one of those programming tools.

98 Off Road XLT, 5.4 w/forged crank, 9.75 ring, 3.55 posi, tranny cooler.

I bought my truck with the manual and I will never go back to an auto (unless they force me). I feel like a mindless moron when driving the auto. The manual makes the trck drive how you choose and looses less HP internally.

Good Choice!

look in the engine section under F150 vs F150

i raced my friends 98 5.4 auto with my 4.6 stick, and with all the added weight of my truck, supercab, stereo, sunroof, etc, we came pretty even
now remember, the 98 was the 235 hp 5.4, but still, not bad for almost a litre less displacement!
