Odometer stopped counting
A friend of mine at work has a 1997 F-150 4X4 without the digital odometer. His odometer stopped counting yesterday. Does anyone know where the connection to the tranny is? Is this odometer computer controlled?

My '97 4x4 will do the same thing if the trip odometer reset button hangs the mechanism up.
Ask your friend to try re-setting the trip odometer a few times and see if this frees the mileage odometer.

The connection to the tranny is through a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) located either on the top of the tailshaft of the tranny (4x2) or transfer case (4x4). It creates an AC signal which feeds the computer, which feeds the odo.
