Transmission problem?

I need help...

I'm not sure if this is a transmission problem but I'm starting here. A while back, I was driving at 55, and my truck started vibrating hard (like I was on a rough road, but I was on a highway). The vibrating seemed to last for about a half mile and then stopped. I could also feel the vibration in the steering wheel but it was not as strong as I was feeling inside the cab (there was no shimmy in the steering wheel, so I have to rule out a loose front end). Recently, I have felt the vibration at lower speeds (almost like I was lightly tapping the brake pedal, which I was not). I've been under the truck and looked at the driveshaft, gave it a good shaking and it was very firm.

I've also had problems with the transmission shifting hard. From a slow speed, pressing on the gas pedal and the transmission would downshift hard (no audible sound, though I could feel the transmission shifting hard). When I was pressing on the pedal, I was pressing moderately, not like when trying to pass another vehicle.

My truck is a F150, 1999, 2WD & a V6.

I know this may sound vague, but I would appreciate any help.

Exactly the same problem I am experiencing. I just worded it differently. See my thread titled "harsh shifting" under Transmissions.

I have yet to have anyone provide a reply.

Hey, Ford mechanics, give us some help.

Jeff

Dogbite;
Check your left rear parking brake cable. It is a short cable only about 3 feet long. They wear out and don't completely retract when you release your parking brake, leaving the rear brake rubbing. It gets worse in cold weather. After you drive for a while, the brake drum heats up, warps and starts to vibrate. The vibration gradually releases the parking brake cable and it goes away. I had this happen to me and it took half a winter to figure it out. I hope for your sake that that is the problem because it's a lot cheaper than a transmission repair. Good luck, GlennMc.

How many miles? Does it still have the original transmission fluid? If you have more than 25,000 miles change the fluid. That could be all that's wrong.
