Cool O/D Light

My O/D light flashes on and off a couple of times and then goes away. Any one have or had the same problem? or know what may be causing it?

I have a 2000 supercab 4x4 w5.4l and auto trans at 49,000 miles with same problem of flashing o/d light at end of gear shift lever. I noticed even though the light comes on I am still in overdrive. By wiggleing the gearshift lever while in "D" the light will come on and off even though I remain in O/D. Eventually the fuse controlling overdrive defeat opens(I believe it is #26, 5 amp)sounds like a chaffed wire running from overdrive defeat switch down the steering column. Will deal with it soon and post findings.

Cool

Thanks Jackdish for your reply. Mine also stays in OD with the light flashing, I hope it is also a shorted wire.

The flashing OD light is a problem code indicator. Do a search for more info...its been on this site before.

Mine did the same thing and it was a bad selenoid on the transmission. Take it in and get it fixed. Mine was the 1-2 shift selenoid. The truck shifted much smoother after the fix.

Unhappy

Update, the dealer said two bad solenoids in the tranny, $700. 46k never towed anything or been off road, go figure.
