Hey Factory_Tech - a question.....
I changed the fluid in my '98 4wd 5.4 E4OD / 4R100 tranny the other day. When I was refilling, at a certain point (i knew it was pretty full cause the fluid was going down the funnel to the dipstick hole slower) the fluid started pouring off all sides of the tranny. Now I'm 95% confident I simply overfilled the tranny and it was running out an overflow somewhere on the top of the tranny housing - but I can't find any info to confirm this. SO MY QUESTION - is there provision for overflow on top of tranny housing, like a vent hose, or did I inadvertently 'blow' something loose by overfilling. Thanks.
See the "Fluid Change Advice" post. Just replied to there, I didn't get down to this one till now... slow typer!
Yes, there is a vent on top, it settles down and reseals itself. No harm done, except you could be low on fluid now that the converter is filled up.

there is a "jiggle cap" vent on top of the case, if you have run the tranny and the fluid is at the right level you prolly haven't hurt anything. Some models get a "right angle" vent that feeds to something but I don't know what hooks up to that vent (they do that at the assembly plant)
