Post Trans temps

Well, now that the summer temps are dipping, the trans is running cooler.
A little history: Was following the F-D.com site and reading about high trans temps. So I installed an Autometer gauge. Dead-head the truck, 180-195 on the freeway. So I installed the Hayded #979 and a fan. Dead-head, 180F. Towing in the hills 180F, 2nd gear down a 9% 1 mile grade 195F w/ 2500lb trailer.
This week running around, the trans would hit ~170F, sitting in traffic. Ambient temps have settled to a high of 100F.
I also installed the Hayden adjustable temperature fan controller. It's an OK unit. However, with the temp sender that goes in the fins of the cooler, it is more susceptible to cooling air flow and underhood temperatures than the actual trans cooler temp. After sitting in the parking lot for 10-15 minutes, I can startup the truck and the fan will comeon until there is enough air flow to cool off the sensor from the hot soak (~1mile). If I were to do it over again, I would buy the sensor that has a threaded fitting that t's off the cooler line.
