Post Shifting Hard

I have a 2 week old supercrew with a 5.4 auto transmission. I thought I felt it shift hard once last week but didn't notice anymore until last week. Then this weeekend I took it for a long trip and noticed that when the cruise control was set at about 75 mph and I would hit the brake to slow down to about 68 mph every time I hit resume it would drop out of O.D. and into third. The cruise would take me to about 78 and jerk pretty hard back into O.D. Anyone with insight or ideas I would really appreciate any info before I take it in for warranty work and am told nothing is wrong.

You'd prolly be better off accelerating back up to 78 on your own instead of letting the cruise do it for you. The cruise only understands that you set it for 78mph and the truck isn't going that fast. It tries to speed up by opening the throttle, prolly a bit too much because it forces a 4-3 downshift. When the speed catches up to the set speed, the cruise backs off on the throttle causing the harsh 3-4 shift.

My 97 does same thing. I think it's pretty much normal, I need to be within about 3 or 4 mph when hitting resume or it will pop out of OD. I either use pedal to get back up to speed before hitting resume or I push set at the lower speed then tap the accel button a couple mph at a time to keep it in OD.
