Post TRANSMISSION

MY 1997 F-150 HAS A 4 SPEED AUTOMATIC. AT 30-35 MPH AT 1,400 TO 1,500 RPM THERE IS A SHUTTER IN THE DRIVETRAIN. IT FEELS LIKE I AM DRIVING OVER A RUMBLE STRIP. THE DEALER CLEANED OUT THE OLD ATF AND INSTALLED NEW ATF. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THE PROBLEM, AND DOES THE REPLACEMENT OF ATF SOLVE THE PROBLEM?

Welcome to the board Alphen. If you use the search function and search on a subject like transmission shudder, you'll probably come across something similar to yours.

If I remember correctly, most people respond that it took care of the problem, some say it does but eventually comes back somewhere down the road needing it done again.

If you change the transmission fluid every 20,000 miles the shudder will not return.

I am also having problems w/ my trans. 97 150 Xcab 5.4 auto trans 4X4 w/ towing pkg, 88K miles. I have changed the fluid twice-including the converter, the last with Mercon V, still no luck. I have also changed all Ox sensors, Fuel filter, and Plugs (pain). The dealer wants $80 to check the computer nut has told me that he cannottell me if the converter is the problem. I am going to try to replace the Cat converter and then the torque converter. I will let you know what happens.

Had the same thing with my 97 xlt supercab. Changed fluid at 33000, stopped shudder. Changed fluid again when it reappeared at 60000, but added auxillary transmission cooler and changed the torque converter fluid at the same time. Towed nearly 8000 miles this summer and now have 91000 on my 4.6. Not a problem with shudder anymore!
