clark98;

It's a 4R70W. Sponge-o-matic.

This is 'must-reading' -- and is probably more than you'd ever want to know about your tranny: http://www.tccoa.com/transmission/

Thast post refers to the passenger version of the 4R70 and most the info in it, while technically correct, is very misleading about the truck versions. The 4R70 is a great box, it's only inferior when compared to the 4R100, really. Consider that the top of the line tranny in a Chevy or Dodge is an 800 box, and they are very similar to the 4R70. The 4R100 is a beast of a transmission and next to it they're all kinda puny, but 700 ft/lbs of torque is more than anything the 4R70 is bolted to is producing.

my 2 cents...

Gregg

Hi, Factory_Tech! Haven't seen your posts for a while -- glad to see you're back.

I have a bit of difficulty reading (trifocals) the tranny upside down and have not been able to positively identify mine -- although it does have the infamous 'green-sticker'.

Can you give me some pointers as to how I can id it by physical attributes?

Tks,

Hi Factory Tech

I have a 99 Expy with a build date of 8/98 and it has an E on the door plate. I also have the heavy duty tow package. Is this a 4r100????

Thanks--Bob

PS it does look like a big son of a b***h.

Bob, you have a 4R100, and yeah, it's huge....
Y2K, you have a 4R70W, teh green sticker is the giveaway on that. But it doesn't mean there's anything wrong, look for my post on the green and orange stickers,,,,do a search I can't remember where it was...
