Transmission question
Got my 97 F150 truck used (Under warrenty), so I haven't had it long enuf to know if this is right, I was on the freeway going about 70 mph, slowed down to 20 mph for trafic and then speed up the trany seems to go out of overdrive for a second and go back in. After adding a 40 series flowmaster I can hear this more now.

Torque converter lockup is based on throttle-position and speed and how quickly you move the accelerator.
Fourth gear (OD) won't hook up until 40 MPH, and will hold down to as much as 35+ under very slight throttle. The "map" for the mix gets quite complex, but nothing that you said sounds an alarm to me. ------------------ XLT SC SB 5.4 4x4 3.73 LS |
Opps, let me say that again.
I was going 70mph, slowed down to 55 mph, when I hit the gas to speed back up, the trany seems to go out of OD for a second and back in again. I would think it would go out of OD, build up some speed as my foot is back on the gas and go back into OD when I ease off the gas back to 70 mph. My 98 explorer does this, Just wondering if that is common to the f150 trany. My transmission does the same thing when I back off of the throttle and then back on. My RMP'S go up about 500 then overdrive kicks back in. sounds like we both have the same senario. After talking to a few people, they tell me this is normal. BUT if you are worried take it to a dealer. i am taking mine in. i will post what I find out.
