Finally got the B&M improver installed today, and needless to say, I don't have much good to say about B&M's directions that came with the unit. They say it installs in "minutes", but what they don't tell you is that you have to remove the battery, the battery cover, and the tray it sits in to get to the wires!!
Anyway, the kit works GREAT!! My shifts are MUCH firmer than before while in level 1, and there is no lagging between shifts like before, the OD shift, both up and down, is much improved also. level 2 is too firm for me personally when my truck is empty, but I have a feeling it will be just right when pulling my motorcycle trailer with 3 or 4 full size bikes on it!!! B&M says not too drive around with it in level 2 for prolonged periods of time though. I have a question for anyone who has it, or maybe DIRT BIKE DAVE since his buddy has one....and that is where did they position the unit in the truck? The relay (small rectangular black box) gets real hot when the truck is on and I don't want to melt anything. THANKS ALOT!!

I'll check w/my friend to see where he put his on the Expedition. Isn't it a relief to have that shifting fixed? I'm glad the B&M is working so well for you.

DAVE,
Thanks for the help, let me know what your friend tells you. and yes, it is DEFINATELY a relief to have that tranny shifting better, best $30 I've spent in a while! I'm anxious to hook up the trailer and the bikes and to see how it does then!

Thumbs up

ORPlariet:

OK, glad you finally got it installed. Mine hasn't shown up yet from J.C. Whitney, but expect it this week. Unfortunately, the kid has a hockey tournament this weekend, so it may be a while before I get to it. Have to change the oil soon, so it won't be TOO long before I get to the B & M.

Also thanks for the warning on the battery removal, etc. Have had my '97 less than 30 days, so I haven't had much time to muck around under the hood other than to realize the plugs look like a real B^%#h to change. Oil filter looks great, however, compared to my '92 and '97 GM 350s. I always loved the oil all over the suspension/4WD components and running up into my armpit.

Still concerned over the heat issue, but have seen no posts saying they burn out.

Keep us posted as to ongoing probs/benefits.

Jaymz,
I still haven't figured out where would be the best location to put the relay, since it does get real hot. BY the way, I am Referring to the small rectangular box that is about 1/4 of the way down the wire from where you flip the switch, you will see what I am talking about when you get yours, it has the word "FORD" stamped on one side. I think Dave may help me out on this one though! as for now, it does a great job and I have no complaints. let me know if you run into any difficulties installing it.
