Post Whats the difference

Whats the differece in the e40ds. I know they upgraded them in 1995. Did they remain the same until 1998. They changed them again in 98, so the fluid never has to be changed. What improvements did they make and are the 95-98s any good

Go to http://www.baumannengineering.com/
click on the section about the E40D, they lay it all out in pretty good detail. If you need to know about the 4R100 e-mail them

Do they still put the E40d in trucks? I know that they have the 4R100, but do they put the E4od in F-150's? I was checking prices on Superduties awhile back and I saw where they had a no-cost Auto and a $995 auto. What is the difference in them?

Some things I'm finding interesting (since I'm looking for a new truck):

Both the 4.6 and 5.4 use the same auto tranny now. At least it's the same order code (44).

Pastmaster- The best I can tell, you can get the "no-cost" automatic coded 44E IF you get California emissions. Otherwise, the 44U code automatic is about $1000.

The 44U is the 4R70W, available with all engines in the F150. The 44E is the 4R100 (upgraded descendant of the E40D) available in the F150 ONLY with the 5.4 and the CA emissions pkg. I saw the 2000 zero pricing thing too and I too am somewhat confused by it. In 1999 both trannys were the same price. My best guess is that it's a typographical error. If not buy the CA emissions (Free!!) and save a grand on the tranny.

Starting in 2000, all F150s will get California emissions (LEV). That would explain the no cost option code.
