A4WD problem
Have electronic "4x4" shift on the fly.
When I go to A4WD the light justs blinks on
and off...4X4H and 4X4L work fine. I've been
told this can come from metal "wear" particles messing up the sensors in the Xfer case or a bad "gems module" ?????
Plan to change the xfer case fluid. Had the tranny and torque convertor "flush and fill" about 5,000 miles ago, but I don't think that included the xfer case.
Has anyone else seen or had this problem?
Thx
Rick

If you're not out of warranty, go immediately to a service center and at least have the problem documented. If you can duplicate the problem, let them find out what's wrong.
If you're out of warranty -you have my sympathy.
My Expedition would flash back and forth between 4HI and A4WD- sometimes show A4WD when switch was set to 4HI- sometimes the other way around. Turned out to be a bad switch in the dash. Since the problem was intermittant, it took many trips to the service dept. before they could actually see it and change the switch- I actually told them what was wrong- diags always showed "No Trouble Found".
Good Luck.

reedr: When I replaced my transfer case oil last weekend the stuff that came out of it sure didn't look like Mercron ATF (what the manual calls for.) Let us know how the fluid looks from your t-case. Okay? Good luck with the fix!

I'm experiencing the same problem. When I try to engage A4WD, the A4WD light in the dashboard just blinks. However, 4H and 4L works just fine. Is this a GEM module defect? If yes, how much will it cost to get it replaced? If any of you experienced the same problem, please let me know what the root cause was so I can try and fix it myself.
