clutch question

Can you tell when your clutch will go bad on you? Or does it just happen?

You know when you take off in first gear and you have to ride the clutch some to get going without stalling. Well if the clutch slips it does this by it's self. You would really be able to tell in second. When you have let the clutch all the way out but the engine revs higher (like you are riding the clutch) but your not really going as fast as the engine is revving.

Ok. Have I confused you yet.
I tried!

no it sounds exactlly like what is happening to me now. Could it be possible that the fluid level is low??? How much does a new clutch run???? The truck has 83,600 miles on it and I dont ride the clutch at all except starting in first. The clutch was perfect when I got it. Hell it might have been brand new, the warranty runs out real soon. In about 100 miles or so, maybe less. How long do I have before im tottal SOL???

ok I quess my "slippin cluth" was just an illusion of my mind. Cause its now back to normal. The only thing I can think of is that I am now driving around campus where there are a lot of steep as hills (which im not used to with a stick). One more question can weather affect the way your clutch components act? Kinda like how heat can sometimes cause your engine not to have the power it does in cool weather.

Heat (or at least the heat that you are experiencing) shouldn't affect clutch slip. The best way I could describe clutch slip is that you'll know it when you have it, BELIEVE me...
