???Does it make sense to install TransGo kit???

Hi everybody!
I have '97 SC with 4R70W tranny and after reading all great opinions on TransGo shift kit I decided to install Step 2 kit…
On the forum I read that it doesn't really matter at what mileage you install it but a guy who installs the kits at the very reputable shop told me that at my mileage (110,000) it doesn't make sense "to put a 17 years old boy's heart into 50 years old men's body"
So what do you guys think about it? Does that worth the money? I put around 3000 miles a month on the truck. Do I need to wait for a while and install it when I am ready for the tranny rebuild?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Alex

wow, I know a few 50 + years olds that wouldn't mind a good 17 year old heart . . . I guess that explains Viagra's popolarity as well.

I have 198,000 on my 'company car' F150 5.4L 4R100 and wouldn't hesitate (if the company paid for it that is) as I think my truck is good for aleast another 50K (a fellow employee has over 385,000 on his F150 and it still looks and drive excellent, of course his foot isn't as heavy as mine)

I love the Transgo kits and have used many of them. This particular situation would make me think twice. I would probalbly do it knowing that if I desired the Transgo end result I would have to rebuild the trans and then install the kit or install kit and if the trans goes bad then rebuild. Either way you end up with the same result. If you know that potentially this is the outcome and it doesn't give you heart burn go for it.

Actually you may extend the life of the tranny a little bit with a kit. You could likely cut down on friction wear letting it rest a little in it's last miles. If it's in good shape already, no telling how long it would last.

I probably wouldn't instal it at max level but even on the lowest setting it could help.

I thought about the same thing but then came to the conclusion that putting in a shift kit might actually help. As Familyride pretty much said if your tranny has held upto 110K and was maintained halfway well then the shift kit would/could add some more life. I would deffiently add the two Sonnax valves.

Thanks a lot, guys!
I appreciate your input very much!

I have not had any problems with the tranny as for now even though I understand that it's close to be rebuild.
It looks like the best way to go is to replace all wearied parts along with the kit installation. I understand that. I don't know exactly how much the rebuild will be but I think it's around $1000. I cannot afford it right now…
I did some investigation and it looks like (I know many of you would not agree with it) that the average life for a 4R70W is around 150k so I probably will wait until it dies. With my driving it would not be too long.

Thanks a lot again!
Alex.

I will turn 57 next month and just yesterday my doctor gave me a referral to a cardiologist. I may need that 17 year old heart.

Oh, the TRANSGO Shift Kit works great for me.

I hope that the referral is nothing serious. 57 is too damn young to have to worry about heart troubles. Prayers being sent your way.
