overdrive light flashes

I was driving home on a 700 mile round trip and my over drive OFF light started flashing. I don't know why , but it continues to do so. Also my cruise control kept bumping up into 3500 rpms and staying there at 75mph. I don't know if the two are related but something is weird with my transmission.

A flashing overdrive light means the computer has found a transmission problem.

Get is checked right away! A small transmission problem has a way of turning into a complete rebuild or replace if ignored!

I had the same problem on my Explorer at about 70,000 miles. After several discussions with Ford and others, I had the transmission rebuilt.....two weeks later the flashing returned. After numerous battles, we discovered that the wire leading to the overdrive "button" had worn and was shorting in the column....a $50 solution. Needless to say, I was not happy and the battle with the dealership is longer than I care to type here.

Good Luck!
