Mercon V vs. Universal Fluid's???

What would be the performance/characteristics/benefits/differences between running a universal type fluid that meets Mercon V specs and running an actual Mercon V only fluid?

I was looking around and noticed that the only "Mercon V" only fluid I could find was Motorcraft and a generic brand Pro Line. Neither of which are synthetic. Everything else is universal or doesn't meet Mercon V at all. Amsoil is also one of the universal ones. I know they are top of the line but just wondering if anyone knows the difference.

I recently changed mine and used QS semi-syn rated Dexron 3, Mercon, Mercon V. I did so because I changed my Villager at the same time and it uses Mercon, thus I only needed to get one fuild type. I don't see any problem. It's rated for applications Mercon V and it's semi synthetic and it's a name brand. I feel good and that makes me happy.

By the way. I did notice a difference in the shift. It's a small change but noticeably quicker.
