Incorrect Gears?

I'm not sure what exactly happened, but all of a sudden I noticed that my automatic shift handle was shifted into a different gear. Now I've got to shift into 2 for it to be Drive, and into D for it to be neutral. Can this problem be fixed easily? Any cooperation is greatly appreciated.

JPScallan-

Welcome !! Crawl under your truck on the driver's side by the transmission. On that side, above the pan, you will see where the linkage hooks up to the transmission. The connection there has an adjustable fastener. Check there first to see if it is loose or has slipped on the small teeth.

Maybe?

Are you just saying the little indicator on the dash is off and it has to be lined up on the "2" to actually be in "D"?

My wifes car will do that too. I just have to drop the shift lever all the way down to "1" and that aligns the indicator up again. Does it about every 3 months or so........ Not seen that happen on my F150.

I have the same problem. Its not that the transmission is in the wrong gear, its just that the little red indicator is in the wrong place. Mine happened one day last year. I tried to adjust the connection between the shift cable and the transmission lever, but it did not look like it had moved, and with the lever in park, it would not move at all. Does anyone know what the solution to this is?
