Overdrive switch problems

I have a 2000 F150 with a 5.4 auto. The overdrive select button on the shifter does not work but the trans. does shift into overdrive when the appropiate speed is reached. The under dash fuse blows when I put a new one in and try and disable the auto/overdrive at the switch. Where do I start to solve the problem? I'd appreciate any advise. thanks, Dan

Cool

HI!... DAN : Take the steering column apart and check the 3 wires going to the switch. My overdrive switch stopped working on my truck and when I got into the wiring harness for the switch, I found that the wires were broken in the sheething. The wires looked o.k on the outside but were broken inside. I cut the harness out and replaced it with thicker guage wire. I also made the wire harness longer so that the "PULLING ACTION" of using the shift lever would'nt make it break again. I used a grounded test light to find out where it was broken. Try it, it might just be what's happening to yours. Hope this helps you out.
