Lightbulb overdrive.

I have a 99 f-150, is therre any way to have the overdrive off when I start the truck and then turn it on when I want it? I don't like how it is the other way around. My trtanny guy says to keep it off below 60 to prolong life. If others drive my truck they don't always do as they're told. Josh

O.D.

I don't know how to do that, but I don't think that you need to hold it out of overdrive unless it keeps shifting from 3 to 4 in town. It the shifting alot that causes the wear. Plus you will get better mileage if it will stay in overdrive. Chris

Cool

HI!... Turn the OVERDRIVE off and disconnect the wire connector harness up under the dash. I had a broken wire in the 3 wire, wire harness going up to the shift lever. For as long as the wire was broken the overdrive never worked. Just take the steering column covers off and trace back the 3 wire harness till it comes to the connector. Disconnect it and there you go. Hope this helps you out.

I'm pretty sure what he means here is: Is there a way to reverse the way the switch works? So that OD is OFF when you start up, and then when you want it, hit the switch, and turn it ON.

Doubt it, but.....

I am not a tranny expert, but I would have to say that there probably is, if you want to mess with the computer on the truck. Seeing that it is all controlled by the computer, or you could just use Neals' trick, that would work as well. Other than that, I would have to say that I doubt that there is a way to do that.
