2008 vs 2009+ F150 Valve Bodies.
 

Does anyone know what the differences are between the 2004-2008 (Part#: 7L3Z7A100A) and the 2009+ (Part#: AL3Z7A100D) valve bodies for the 4R75E transmissions in the F150? The only differences I can find for sure is that they use a different wiring harness, therefore different solenoids. Anything else, or is everything else exactly the same?

I ask because the 2009+ valve bodies are about $130 cheaper than the 2008 ones. I already have new solenoids, so being able to use the 2009+ valve body and just switch out the solenoids would be a lot cheaper.

It will be going into a 2008 F150.

I would recommend using valve bodies that are specific to the model year of that transmission.

Yeah, you're probably right. I've just already spent way too much money and was hoping that they would interchange after swapping solenoids and save me a little cash. So much for wishful thinking. Thanks.

Thanks for letting me know. Everything else besides the solenoids seemed to be the same, even the gaskets used, but I wasn't sure.

For your needs, just use the plate you said you have as-is.

I need to find time to make and post more videos to answer things like you have questions about. The literature you have to work with is factually inaccurate unfortunately.

To what literature are referring? Do mean both the 2004 and 2008 OEM F150 shop manuals that show a forward clutch clearance spec of 0.072"-0.090"? I posted a picture in the other thread of the forward clutch page from the 2008 manual showing the spec..

One of the retaining ring sizes in the 08 manual was changed compared to the 04 manual, so they did a revision at some time. I'd have to imagine if the spec was wrong that they would have changed it along with the retaining ring revision, but who knows. It's hard to know what's what.

Darrin, do you know if the 09-14 valve bodies use the same forgings/castings (RF-1L3P) as the 01-08?

Just a FYI update. I received the new valve body today. After taking it apart to check it out and make sure it would work, I'm happy to report it will. It has the same casting number (RF-1L3P) and separator plate as the one out of my 08. The only things I could find that were different were the connectors on the solenoids (as I already suspected), a retainer for one of the valves was changed to a wire style from the plate style and a couple of the springs looked to be different colors. So if anyone needs to go this route, you now know you can.

Yah!! Barring any further delays, I'll get to start assembling the transmission this weekend. Fingers crossed.
