So the transmission went out of My f150, its a 4.2. I found a transmission for it but its 4r70w, will it work and what do I need to change to make it work.

What year is your truck, what transmission does it have now, and is it 2wd or 4wd?

If it's an automatic, it's a 4R70W. Compatible 4R70W transmissions are a 1999-2003 4R70W out of a 4.2 F150 with the same drive system (2wd or 4wd). If it's a 2wd, a 1999-2003 4.2 van transmission should work. A V8 (4.6 or 5.4) transmission is not compatible, it will not bolt up to your engine, the bellhousing patterns are different. A transmission from a different drive system (2wd/4wd) is not compatible, the tailshaft housings are different. Prior to 1999 and after 2003, the electronics are different. If you have a manual transmission, an automatic conversion is not easy, it involves not only mechanics, but electrics and electronics.
