Transmission problem
Please help my 2000 Ford F-150 4x4 transmission will not work unless the OD button is pushed!! If not pushed it won’t move if you push the OD button it’s drives perfectly except for reverse!! Any ideas the transmission was rebuilt 2 years ago |
I would start with the shop that rebuilt the transmission. Then find another shop, to get a second opinion, on what the first shop said.

Transmission problem
I took it back to the shop that built it and they said they thought that the oD sprag was broke that for four hundred more they would pull the transmission and see what the problem is and parts and 150 labor they would fix it except if it had to be rebuilt again1600 |
I'd say they are correct about the OD sprag. It's failed.

Do you trust this shop to rebuild it again? You might want to shop around for another shop, or look for remanufactured.

Thanks for replying I guess I have to come up with 1600 bucks or find a good used one but I kills me that it works fine with the O D button pushed!! Hate to have to pay for the same thing twice |
A remanufactured transmission with a warranty will prevent this headache in the future.

The original shop rebuilt your transmission, and it failed, within 2 years. They did not offer a warranty? Remanufactured transmissions are sold with a 3 year warranty.
Even for less money, I wouldn't let that same shop do the same job all over again. What do you do the next time it fails? Keep paying that same shop to do bad work? Find another shop. Maybe even take it to a chain shop like AAMCO or Sears, if you can't find a reliable independent shop. If you buy something like a Monster Transmission, call them and ask if they could refer you to a shop in your area. Chances are, there probably is a good transmission shop that they have previously done business with. Consider that with a remanufactured transmission, all that any shop has to do is bolt it in. Even AAMCO could do something like that without making a mistake......like not tightening the bolts down to correct spec. At least with a large, nationwide chain, there will be a warranty. AAMCO will probably have their own version of a rebuilt or remanufactured transmission, which they will sell you with installation and warranty. |

Thanks brother you make good since!! |
I will go on the record saying that you can't fault the builder for a sprag failing 2 years down the road. That's a part failure. It happens. I know it sucks. But it's not the builders fault.
And if you're getting a transmission removed, rebuilt and reinstalled for $1600. Well, that's just a REALLY good price. Again, I know it sucks. But reality has to rule. |
